Tips to Manage Travel Fatigue

Did you know that travel fatigue is actually a thing? It’s a relatively new term that connotes exhaustion due to consecutive days of traveling. This can eventually lead to feeling a sense of detachment toward sights, food, and other aspects of a trip that travelers would normally feel excited about.

Coupled with safety measures being undertaken by different cities and countries given our current global situation, these can also add to one’s pagod levels while traveling.

With all that said, you might wonder how to avoid travel fatigue; we hope that these five tips might be helpful.

1) Take it Slow

Oftentimes, people feel compelled to follow a checklist when visiting a certain place: see this sight, eat this dish, visit this friend. Remind yourself that you don’t necessarily need to do everything on that list and choose to slow down when possible. Perhaps prioritize spending a longer time in one place rather than zip towards the next, or add relaxing activities to your itinerary like joining a half-day cooking class instead of a whole-day guided tour. 

2) Get Quality Sleep

Regardless of which time zone you’re in or no matter how many bullets are on your checklist, your body still needs enough sleep to function properly. 3) Add a Day (or Two) Off

If you have a jam packed schedule, you might want to factor in some downtime. 4) Eat Well and Exercise

There’s something about being able to try new food in new places. But there are ways to eat well while traveling. If you’re staying in a bed & breakfast, why not visit the nearby farmer’s market and gather ingredients you can cook with? Aside from that, you can also do workouts in your hotel gym or in your hotel room, go out for a run, or join a bike tour.
